Meet the Founder
I'm Marlicia Miller, founder of DenialMate.
Before launching DenialMate, I built my career across both the provider and payer sides of healthcare. My experience includes Durable Medical Equipment (DME), prior authorizations, claims research, claim status investigations, and claims disputes.
Before healthcare, I served in the United States Navy, where I received training in Operational Intelligence. That experience shaped the way I approach problems today by looking beyond individual events to identify patterns, root causes, and connections that others may overlook.
Throughout my healthcare career, one question continued to follow me:
Why did a claim process the way it did? Why was it denied? Why did the same issues continue to surface across different organizations?
That curiosity eventually became a specialization.
Working in claims research and disputes provided a unique opportunity to see both sides of the conversation. I spoke with providers seeking answers while also working alongside the teams responsible for processing and reviewing claims. Over time, I realized that many denials were symptoms of larger issues. The denial was often the most visible part of the problem, but rarely the entire story.
As both a healthcare professional and a parent who has navigated the healthcare system on behalf of a child with ongoing medical needs, I understand that these challenges extend beyond claims and reimbursement. Behind every denial, delay, and appeal are real organizations, providers, patients, and families affected by the outcome.
That perspective continues to shape the work I do today through DenialMate.
